What are the Dangers of Asbestos Removal?

Many people decide to buy and remodel old houses, but give no thought to the existence of asbestos in these buildings. This is a dangerous material and you should call an asbestos removal company to eliminate it from your home.

Before we go into the dangers of the removal of asbestos, let us define what asbestos is. Asbestos is a combination of different minerals that occur in nature and take on the form of fibers. Generally speaking there are two types of asbestos, chrysotile and amphibole. They differ from each other somewhat. Amphibole has straight fibers that take on the appearance of small needles. Chrysotile is the type of asbestos that is
used, or has been used in commercial applications. The mining of this material started in the late 1800s, but was not widely used in construction until the 1940s and used way up into the late 1980s. It was known for its benefits like:

Heat resistance
Fire resistance
and, Chemical resistance.
Because of these benefits it was used widely in the construction industry. It had many uses. It was used in the roofing, to strengthen cement, in insulation material, as a fireproof material and even for soundproofing. It was also used in ceiling and floor tiles, in adhesives, and different types of paints.

Problems began to arise when people became exposed to asbestos over long periods of time. It was found that the mineral began to cause some serious health problems. It soon became known that exposure to asbestos caused Asbestosis.  This is the accumulation of asbestos in the lungs and a cause of fibrosis Mesothelioma, a type of cancer that affects the membranes around the lungs. As a result of these problems asbestos is not used in the construction industry today, and yet, it was used until the mid 1980's, and so continues to be a problem, because of the need for asbestos removal.

People at risk of illness due to asbestos exposure are:

People that work with asbestos, especially in regards to the construction industry,

People that work in the asbestos removal fields. Especially those who deal with its direct
removal,

People that do building renovation. Especially if they come into contact with older constructions that have
asbestos in them,

People in the shipping industry that work in ship renovation,

The people that work in this industry and the people they come into contact with including not only their families, but also their friends are at risk of acquiring different health problems due to being exposed to asbestos.

The people they come into contact with are also affected because particles of asbestos can,t be seen by the naked eye and they can be on the persons' clothes, hair or body. Health problems caused by Asbestos may not show up for many years. In fact, they may not appear until some 40 years later.

Because asbestos is such a dangerous material, it should always be removed from a specialist in asbestos removal. Obviously, they have the safety equipment and tools to do the job safely, without putting anyone at risk of contracting such a terrible disease.

Understanding Mesothelioma Cancer Disease

Author: Husseiny Ahmed

Article:
What is mesothelioma? Mesothelioma cancer disease is a very rare
type on cancer, but it can be very dangerous and has a very
deadly effect. This cancer can develop in the mesothelial cells
that compose the most outer layers of some internal organs.

What are the types of mesothelioma cancer? The types of
mesothelioma can be divided into main three types according to
the place of the affected internal organs; the most common type
of this cancer is when the tumors are developed in the pleura
"the outer lining of lungs". A less common type is the
pericardial mesothelioma when the tumors are developed in the
pericardium or the sac of the heart and its arteries.

The third mesothelioma type is the peritoneal mesothelioma where
the tumors are developed in the peritoneum or the outer lining
that surrounds the internal organs of the abdominal cavity.
These were the main three types, there is another type that
called benign mesothelioma and in this case the tumors that
developed are nonmalignant.

What is the main cause of mesothelioma? The main cause of
mesothelioma is some natural minerals called "Asbestos". These
Asbestos can be inhaled and cause inflammation of the pleural
leading to malignant tumors after 15 to 25 years. The symptoms
of mesothelioma take very long time to appear, as I mentioned,
they may take up to 25 years to appear that make the diagnosis
process is very hard.

What are the main treatment options for mesothelioma cancer?
Actually, there are many treatment options for mesothelioma
cancer, but the main options to treat mesothelioma are the
surgery option, the chemotherapy option and the radiotherapy
option. If you were dealing with Asbestos before, please consult
your doctor today.

What are the symptoms of Mesothelioma?

Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 20 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. Shortness of breath, cough, and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space are often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma.

Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and cachexia, abdominal swelling and pain due to ascites (a buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity). Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever. If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.

These symptoms may be caused by mesothelioma or by other, less serious conditions.

Mesothelioma that affects the pleura can cause these signs and symptoms:

* chest wall pain
* pleural effusion, or fluid surrounding the lung
* shortness of breath
* fatigue or anemia
* wheezing, hoarseness, or cough
* blood in the sputum (fluid) coughed up (hemoptysis)

In severe cases, the person may have many tumor masses. The individual may develop a pneumothorax, or collapse of the lung. The disease may metastasize, or spread, to other parts of the body.

Tumors that affect the abdominal cavity often do not cause symptoms until they are at a late stage. Symptoms include:

* abdominal pain
* ascites, or an abnormal buildup of fluid in the abdomen
* a mass in the abdomen
* problems with bowel function
* weight loss

In severe cases of the disease, the following signs and symptoms may be present:

* blood clots in the veins, which may cause thrombophlebitis
* disseminated intravascular coagulation, a disorder causing severe bleeding in many body organs
* jaundice, or yellowing of the eyes and skin
* low blood sugar level
* pleural effusion
* pulmonary emboli, or blood clots in the arteries of the lungs
* severe ascites

A mesothelioma does not usually spread to the bone, brain, or adrenal glands. Pleural tumors are usually found only on one side of the lungs.

These Are Some Of The Symptoms Of Pleural Mesothelioma

Pleural mesothelioma is a disease that affects the lining of the lungs and these linings are called lung pleura. This disease has been mistaken for lung cancer but, the two have no association because this disease affects the serous membrane. The serous membrane is found on several organs near the chest and abdomen and the most common place the disease affects is the lungs. In most cases, the disease is malignant and this means that it is a form of cancer. Like many other mesothelioma cases, it is caused by the exposure to asbestos. The most common way you can get the pleural mesothelioma is through inhalation. You can take in the asbestos fibers with the air and the body is not able to expel them out of your system and therefore, over a long period of time even up to 30 years, they cause the lining cells to change their form because of scarring and the disease forms.

The major symptom of pleural mesothelioma is heavy breathing because of the fluid which has built up and accumulated putting pressure on the lungs. Other symptoms that will contribute to the build up of the fluid are coughing persistently. You will sometimes cough blood, swallowing will become a major task for you, you will experience shortness of breath even when at a resting position, fatigue, weight loss, pain in the chest area and lumps which will be under the skin in your chest. When you start to see some of this symptoms, it is advisable to seek medical help because you might have a fair chance of recovery. Delaying usually worsens any case. If you suspect to have been exposed to asbestos, it will also be helpful to get checked out for the evidence of the disease and you stand a better chance of getting rid of possibilities of future development.

It is very difficult to test for pleural mesothelioma because the symptoms are so similar to other disease like pneumonia and influenza. The latency period or the time that it takes to develop is usually very long and the disease may have occurred without any symptoms. Apart from observing the symptoms, some tests will have to be undertaken to know exactly where the disease is and whether it has spread. The tests will also seek to find out what type of cancer it is. The test will include x rays, biopsies and others. There are several treatment options for pleural mesothelioma and other treatments have not yet been approved. The known treatments which can provide a cure are surgery. The tumor is surgically removed and other treatments are administered to prevent a reoccurence.

Chemotherapy is a term that refers to the drugs used to treat cancer. These drugs are designed to target and kill the cells that are dividing but, it is not specific on the cancer cells so, healthy and good cells are also destroyed and this is the reason patients loose hair and become weak. The hair cells and immunity cells are being destroyed along with the cancerous cells. Therefore the side effects for this treatment are hair loss, nausea and lack of appetite. You will also be prone to infections because of a low immunity.
